6 tips to make your stay at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa the Best Ever
1. Water shoes
Pack water shoes and wear water shoes in the ocean until you get to know the beach.
Even if you see other people in the water without them!
There is lots of coral and rocks hidden beneath the water! Our teen girls found this out the hard way. Getting cuts on their toes the first time they went in the water did affect our activities for a couple of days. And I over-heard conversations about cuts on feet from other tourists all over the island as well.
2. Pack zip-close plastic bags.
Your fresh flower lei will last more than one day if you put it in a gallon-sized zip close bag with a damp paper towel inside your room refrigerator. Take care not to put it where it will get frozen.
The baggies will also come in handy for storing left-overs in the fridge for snacks or small meals.
3. Consider paying for valet parking.
Because we were World of Hyatt members and there were no upgrades available when we checked in, we got free valet parking. But my husband said the valet service was worth more than a better view, so consider upgrading yourself that way. Self-parking is quite a hike and can get full.
4. Your room view doesn’t matter.
We found that we were perfectly happy with our “non-view room” with a mountain view, even if we could see some roof-top solar panels.
And you can put that extra money you save to good use. Use it to rent a beach cabana!
5. Rent a cabana on the beach for a day.
Lots of reviews on TripAdvisor mentioned that you have to get up early to get a chair by the pool. But because my red hair means I have the opposite of a Polynesian complexion, we have never stayed on a beach or out by a pool for an entire day anyway. Renting a beachside cabana for the day was one of the best parts of our vacation.
You need to reserve this when you make your hotel reservation; they do fill up.
6. Know to expect added fees.
It helps to know ahead of time that there will be an added resort fee, parking fee, and of course, taxes, on your bill. You will see lots of people complaining in reviews about this. For the record, we only had a resort fee added to one of our rooms. So I think that’s why the resort fee is added on – if you need more than one room, this policy saves you money!
But try as best you can to compare resorts by knowing which amenities are included and which fees are added on.
