In first grade, kids are just getting started with independent reading. If you don’t read kids’ books for your own entertainment (I do!) you might have trouble coming up with some suggestions for your kids. Magic Treehouse, by Mary Pope Osborne (series) – An easy to read chapter book series about a boy, a girl, and the journeys they take in their magical treehouse.

Babymouse by Matthew Holm (series) – A graphic novel (lots of pictures) about a mouse with big dreams, like being Queen of the World!

Meet Kirsten (The American Girls Collection) by Janet Beeler Shaw (series) – Kirsten arrives in America in 1854. Read about how strange it all seemed and how America became her home.

Rainbow Magic #1: Ruby the Red Fairy by Daisy Meadows (series) – Easy, fun chapter books about the search for missing fairies.
