Even though parties will be smaller in 2020, you can still have fun with the look of food, and kids can help! Food crafts make a great Christmas activity to do with your kids. I made this for my daughter’s 5th grade class party years ago and it was a big hit! I was trying to come up with a snacked that fulfilled the healthy requirement, that didn’t take all the fun out of the party food too! I made this for my daughter’s 5th grade class party and it was a big hit! (And yes, the first kid in line took the star off the top. You might consider cutting some extras.)

Fruit display for a kids Christamas party - Healthy doesn't have to take all the fun out of food for a Christmas party. I made this grape Christmas tree for my daughter's class party and it was a hit! Find out how to DIY!

I first posted this the day we were getting ready for a Christmas party. I have no idea why I took time out to do that!

Kid friendly fruit Christmas

The great thing about this is that it’s all kid friendly fruit! It takes a bit of strength to push the toothpicks into the Styrofoam, so it may be more of a helping project than an independent project. But if you have several kids who would want to help, you can also have them each work on shorter trees, and make a grape Christmas tree forest!

How to make a Grape & Cherry Christmas Tree Centerpiece

It’s impressive and not very hard, it just takes a while. Here are the photos of all the steps!

Press in the tips of the toothpicks with a spoon handle. If they won't go in, clip them with kitchen scissors.

Ha ha! Let’s see… if that one was 16 inches tall, and how do you compute the surface area of a cone? Is it 1/3 of a cylinder? Oops. That’s volume and I need surface area. So I googled it and oh, my goodness! I have to find the length of the slant height, etc. etc. That is just too much math to do on Christmas Eve. Let’s just say that it would take the exact time of forever to stick all the grapes on that tree, and judging from how long it took to eat that many grapes a crowd of about a thousand people to eat all of the grapes. But I think one family of my nieces and nephews alone could take care of all of the cherries! They ate all the ones at our Christmas party last night.

Last night my daughters made one of these with a 9 inch cone. It took 3 lbs of grapes and a lot less time.

      Merry Christmas!
