There’s no need to have to learn lots of different complicate braids, either. You can change up the braids a lot just by using different ribbons. And changing the width can mean it looks like a totally different type of braid!

For my daughter’s high school mum, we made ONLY TWO different types of braids. Using different types of ribbon and different widths changes the look of the braids.

Sometimes it can help to see a video of the actual process. I think the videos by Crafty Bug are some of the best. Here is her video tutorial of the Homecoming mum victory braid.

Here’s another video tutorial where they call it a diamond braid. It’s not quite as easy to see what she’s doing, but it gives you and idea about how when you get faster, not taping down the ends might be easier. Also, you get the idea of what a patterned ribbon looks like.

If you look for more tutorials, another name for the “Homecoming mum braid” is a “ribbon lei.” Also search “graduation leis.”

Here’s one I’ve never seen before, a mum “braid.” I love this idea! Homecoming mum “mums” are expensive and also huge. I would make these out of smaller and less expensive bush mums.

Look how cool this Homecoming braid looks with some sheer ribbon.
