It’s Force Friday and you know what that means?

Reading!

What? No, really. With the upcoming release of Star Wars 7, the Force Awakens, a new line of upper middle grade novels is being released! And it’s a great thing for boys and reading. Talk to any elementary school librarian, and they’ll tell you that the Star Wars section is always popular with the boys.

They might not be the next, great American novel. But if you let boys read what they love they can’t help but become better readers and move on to more challenging books. My teen has read a *lot* of Star Wars and he’s a great reader. It really helps with all his classes, especially ones with a lot of reading, like history. So let them read Star Wars, and improve their grades!

Star Wars Smuggler's Run

And don’t forget the girls! Girls often don’t have as much trouble finding something they like to read as boys do, but there are some fantastic strong female characters in Star Wars.
