This seems a bit late – instructions for a peppermint wreath after Christmas, but I don’t have the staff (or the desire!) to make my Christmas ideas in July. 🙂 I’m going to work on timing, but for now, here it is – a Christmas craft after Christmas!

Christmas decor - DIY peppermint wreaths. My daughters made these with me years ago and we still enjoy hanging them in our kitchen windows every year. I share tips and tricks for this easy, original Christmas craft that your kids can help you with or even do on their own.

I love making new crafts, but I really don’t like making repeated copies. This was a difficulty with this craft, because I wanted it for my kitchen windows, and I had three. Lo and behold, but as I was working on the first wreath two more magically appeared! It was a Christmas miracle!…

November 14, 2013 by ES Ivy

I’ve seen print publishing’s answer to ebooks.

Many have predicted the end of paper books, that they’ll go the way of the stone tablet. Others have suggested they’ll persist only as expensive collector’s editions – elaborate coffee table books with burnished gold edges.

I was lucky enough to attend a book signing at Book People in Austin for Richard Peck’s new book, The Mouse with the Question Mark Tail. The future is already here. Richard Peck himself was quite pleased with the design of the book. I think he’s got ebooks to thank for it. For their Newbery Award winner, Penguin has turned out a stunning book….

With the end of the school year approaching it may seem like an odd time to be thinking about what the required reading novels will be next year. But we recently had to fill out course selection sheets for all three kids, and the same questions always comes up. Do we let our kids sign up for preAP English knowing that the reading selections will be more “challenging”? Because in effect we have found what it really means is that the novels will be more disturbing….

Feelings of Failure as Super Mom and my Daughter’s Easter Tree

Easter tree close 400 x 536Can’t stand to look at Pinterest because you feel like such a failure as Super Mom? You are not alone! I am constantly plagued by the fear that I am not doing enough with my kids. And that’s coming from someone who for a while sold craft ideas to Family Fun Magazine. Later, when I hit a slump I couldn’t even stand to look at the magazine because it reminded me of all the great activities I should be doing with my kids.

I have been chatting with some other super moms recently and have found that I’m not the only one who feels this way.

We talk about and publicly post our successes.

We only see our own failures!…

It’s a good thing I added the category “cooking.” Otherwise this would have to go under “posts to keep me from giving advice to random people in stores.” 🙂 I just hate to see someone an inferior product. I know they would really like for me to share my advice. I just know it….
